Hanadama Certificate Explained

Hanadama Certification is a unique process that gives you a piece of mind that your pearls are one of the top most best in the world.

A collection of Frequently Ask Questions is listed below.

Is your AAAA Japanese Akoya grade a Hanadama Pearls?

All of our Japanese AAAA quality pearls are Hanadama quality pearls. It is important to note that only pearls that have been inspected by the Pearl Science Laboratory can be called Hanadama Pearls.

Can I purchase a AAAA Strand of Pearls without a Hanadama Certificate?

Most certainly, our AAAA Japanese Akoya Pearls can be purchased without a certificate. The only small difference would be that we would no longer call them Hanadama Pearls but simply AAAA Grade Pearls. This is because ONLY pearls that have been inspected by the Pearl Science Laboratory can be called Hanadama Pearls.

Is Hanadama Certificate same as Mikimoto?

Hanadama Certificate is a certificate of quality while Mikimoto is a brand name that represents top quality pearls. The Mikimoto company carries many different levels of pearls and it is possible to buy pearls from Mikimoto that would not pass Hanadama inspection, however many of Mikimoto's top of line pieces certainly are Hanadama quality - if they were to be graded for Hanadama quality compliance.

How long does it take for a Hanadama certificate?

The certification process takes 10 days from the time the pearls are submitted to the lab for inspection. Allowing for vault transfer between our offices, the complete certification process takes 3 weeks. On certain occasions we pre-purchase Hanadama strands in certain lengths to have them available for immediate shipping. Please contact us to see what lengths of strands we have available for immediate shipping.

Can I change the length after certification?

The Hanadama inspection is meant to assure that each and every pearl on a strand is of utmost quality. It would be possible to shorten a necklace by removing some pearls and still retain the Hanadama certification, however if new pearls were to be added to the necklace the Hanadama certification should be repeated for the whole necklace.
